At the end of each year I’m always amazed at how much our company and projects evolve. This year I want to share some highlights that helped drive our best year to date! For the folks with short attention spans here’s our 2015 work condensed to 1 minute and 30 seconds.

Truth Labs 2015 Project Reel

14 projects in 12 months

We grew in a lot of ways this year, but most notably over 60% of our client list was new! Each client brought new challenges and workflows unique to their industry. We had a lot of fun learning the nuances of each business and creating elegant designs for some complex problems. Here’s a small sampling of our recent work:

Our work spanned a broad range of verticals including Entertainment, Financial services, Healthcare, Predictive Analytics

New office

After two years of being in a shared office space we decided it was time to move into a place of our own! We are now located in the art district of Chicago at 212 W Superior. Overall it’s been a nice upgrade from our previous situation and it’s brought the team together in some fun and unexpected ways.

The best thing we worked on

When people ask us “what’s the best thing you’ve worked on this year?” it’s not unusual for us to respond with “the project we’re working on right now”. We are constantly trying to outdo ourselves and looking for ways to make whatever we’re working on the “best thing”.

We did a alot of work this year with various presentation tools including Three.js (WebGL), D3.js (svg) and CINEMA 4D. The hope, of course, is to bring new and innovative thinking to our clients. WebGL in particular made its way into a bunch of our projects, like the these interactive articles we worked on with The Atlantic.

These projects required broad tooling to deliver — QGIS, D3, Three.js, Sketch, Node.js, and Illustrator to name a few

We learned a lot bringing these kinds of bespoke experiences to life. The biggest of which, came through connecting the dots between some unrelated tools. In one case, we worked from raw GIS (.shp) data files in QGIS, exporting to GeoJson, rendering in D3, exporting to Adobe Illustrator to create textures for CINEMA 4D, then rendering to Three.js for use on the web. Phew! It’s been fun figuring out our execution paths on these projects. Oh, and we also won site of the day from awwwards.com for our own website!

Truthlabs.com won Site of the Day from awwwards this year!

Looking forward to 2016

2015 was great. We made some big strides as a company and I can’t wait to see what kind of new and exciting challenges 2016 brings.

We’re looking forward to finishing out the year strong then taking a short breather to update our site, share more insights about our projects, and hire more folks to join our team.

Lastly, many thanks to our awesome clients and a personal thank you from me to all the amazing Truth Labs employees!

Best,

Erik
